December 10 - Worthless Things
"Make me walk in the path of Your
commandments, For I delight in it. Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless
things, And revive me in Your way."
Psalms 119:35-37 (NKJV)
Oh how wonderful it would be if every child of God
found every delight in following the commandments of the Lord at all
times. But it sometimes seems so difficult for us, does it not? We begin
looking at 'worthless' things and coveting what the world has to offer
because it LOOKS more enticing than it really is. And it is the very act
of being drawn away from the Lord that the psalmist is praying for
deliverance from and the very same thing James spoke of:
"But each one is tempted when he is
drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has
conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings
forth death."
James 1:14-15 (NKJV)
"Dear heavenly Father, we thank you this
morning for Your Word which You have given to us that we might know you
more. We thank You for Your desire to see us be more like You and Your
active participation in our lives through the indwelling of Your Holy
Spirit. Lord, we pray that You would truly turn our eyes from not only
wickedness, but also from worthless things, and return our eyes to You.
Change our hearts to have the same desires as Your heart. Deliver us
from temptation and help us to daily strengthen our relationships with
You. We thank You and praise You for all that You are and all that You
are at work doing within us. And we ask all these things in the precious
name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen!"
